In the beginning of 2020, I was invited to make work and perform for Tomoko Mukayama’s event Super T-Market, with a kimono as a starting-point for this project.
An extensive period of shape experimentation on small scale resulted in the shirt experiments presented below.
The performance that would’ve accompanied this garment was inspired by the traditional folding tradition of the kimono. The intend was to unfold the extremely oversized shirt and draping it on a model, elevating the act of folding a shirt to a ritualistic level.
Sadly, the event never took place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
